Explore on foot
There is always a first try for everything…!
Talking for Thessaloniki there is always a second one!
It’s not only the nightlife, the food, the vividness. It’s that you have to see and explore so many things.
For those who have never tried the city and for those who would like to try a different perspective, here is a suggestion for a “walking tour”.
We start from the top, at the fortified Acropolis of Thessaloniki, called Heptapyrgion, which offers a spectacular view of the whole city and Thermaikos. You will pass the first gate, Portara, stroll down the wide ride in front of Yedi Kule and go up the Seich Sou to walk in nature.
The streets that go up Agiou Dimitriou Street lead to some special neighborhoods that the houses remain examples of the folk Macedonian architecture, with cute windows, colored doors and small squares with hidden ouzeri and traditional cafes. One of the greatest backdrops if you want to reach the Castles from the city on foot.
Returning to the city center take a walk at Thessaloniki’s seafront. The seaside stroll starts from the pier of the old port where you can rest for a while on the sunbeds-benches overlooking Nikis Avenue enjoying a koulouri. Walk from Aristotelous Square, continue in front of dozens of cafes along the avenue and reaches the pedestrianized part, from the White Tower to the Zangolopoulos Umbrellas.
The route of Nea Paralia is the modern European face of the city. It’s a great idea to rent a bicycle or take a romantic-a family walk, passing through the theme gardens, park, flowers and cafes overlooking Thermaikos.
Don’t forget you camera and your athletic shoes
